Certain Software releases new whitepaper titled “Planning Greener Events: A Practical Approach to Reducing Carbon Footprint”

San Francisco, CA - December 23, 2009 - Certain Software, Inc., the leading provider of event management solutions for the global meetings and events planning industry, released a whitepaper today geared towards helping meeting and event planners assess the carbon emissions of their events and pinpoint the areas in which they can improve their sustainability. Through partnership with ClimatePath, an organization dedicated to carbon footprint assessment, reduction programs, and support for sustainability projects worldwide, the informative whitepaper offers expert advice on the subject of reducing meetings and events related carbon emissions.

“As corporate social responsibility programs expand, and awareness of climate change grows, consumers, employees, and shareholders are demanding that meeting planners take steps to make events more sustainable. A major part of making an event sustainable is reducing the events carbon footprint, paying special attention to emissions due to attendee travel, which make up the bulk of typical event footprint. We wanted to partner with leaders like ClimatePath to help our customers better understand the carbon footprint of their event, and then reduce and control it. Our event management software solutions already have a significant impact on reducing that footprint, but we wanted to do more. This whitepaper, co-authored with Dave Rochlin, is a step in that direction,” says Olivier Delerm, Chief Marketing Officer at Certain Software.

This whitepaper offers a specific carbon breakdown of 3 typical events of different size/purpose to help organizers gain insight into the carbon sources of their events. By breaking down emissions into different categories, readers can understand how their own actions, along with those outside of their range of control, affect the environment. It then offers a pragmatic approach to reducing carbon emissions through evaluation of venue selection, meals, transportation, energy use, online registration, and more.

With this whitepaper, Certain hopes to share knowledge with the community about the realistic steps behind reducing carbon emissions and the actual benefits companies can gain from going green. Not only is it an increasingly high priority by planners and attendees alike, but reducing carbon emissions can also essentially enhance event efficiency and reduce costs.

Here at Certain we believe that lowering your carbon footprint means being resourceful. With this whitepaper, we hope to offer a very practical platform to reduce your emissions, while, in most cases, reducing event costs.
