Leading Event Management Software Company Teams With Sustainability Firm to Assist Event Organizers in Reducing the Climate Impact and Cost of Events
San Francisco, CA - December 1, 2009 – Certain Software®, Inc., the leading provider of event management solutions for the global meetings and events industry, announced a partnership with ClimatePath®, an organization dedicated to carbon footprint assessment, reduction programs, and support for sustainability projects worldwide. The partnership will enable event managers to reduce costs for events of any size while at the same time minimizing their climate impact through carbon measurement, reduction, and offsetting.

The partnership will help event planners assess the climate impact of their meetings and events, measure and quantify progress toward their sustainability goals, and reduce event costs in the process. ClimatePath will provide event planners with assessment tools and services to analyze and measure their event’s carbon footprint, help create a comprehensive plan to reduce and mitigate the event footprint, and document the results. ClimatePath will also work with event planners to offset the event and close the carbon emission gap.
Since the vast majority of an event's footprint is typically due to attendee related travel and hotel stays, Certain and ClimatePath will also work together to develop a module which allows event attendees to voluntarily offset their travel as part of the registration process, if the event sponsor wishes to enable that capability. All offsetting will be done through donations to the ClimatePath Ecologic Fund, a nonprofit (501c3) which screens, evaluates, and supports verified and innovative emissions reduction projects, and permanently retires the credits that these projects generate.
