Your Definition of Success, It's An Inside Job:
A Transition Weekend for Parens of Students
Who Are Visually Impaired with Additional Disabilities
Including Deafblindness
Should You Bring Your Child with Visual and Additional Disabilities or Deafblindness?
Can they fully participate in the workshop?
By that we mean that they can take part in some of the activities we will be asking you to do such as listen and discuss plans for the future. They can handle sitting in sessions all day on Saturday and most of Sunday. They would enjoy and benefit from participation in the workshop. If they can, please register them to attend if they are 10 thru 21 years old. Students who are older may not participate.
Would you prefer to have them with you rather than at home with a sitter?
If you do not want to arrange child care at home, but would rather have your child care provider come with you to Austin, then you can certainly bring him or her along. Just be aware that they will most likely be confined to your hotel room for the better portion of the day. Be sure to let us know if they will join us for meals.
Would you prefer to have them at home with a sitter?
TSBVI Outreach can reimburse families for the cost of child care up to a maximum of $150 per family for the entire weekend if they cannot get support from DARS-DBS or other entity. You may choose your sitter (even a family member) and provide us with a receipt for the services they provided when you return home and we will reimburse those costs in about 3-5 weeks. Just indicate on your registration form if that financial assistance is needed from TSBVI Outreach.
Should You Bring Your Other Minor Children?
Unless they are old enough to fully participate in the workshop, we would recommend you make arrangements for a sitter at home or in the hotel. We want you to have limited distractions during the workshop, so you can get the full benefit of the training. TSBVI Outreach can reimburse child care costs up to a total of $150 per family for the entire weekend If you can not get support from DARS-DBS or other entity. This will cover only child care that you arrange at home or at the hotel and can not be paid until after the workshop has ended and paperwork is processed (about 3-5 weeks). Just indicate on your registration form if that financial assistance is needed from TSBVI Outreach.
If you must bring your minor children with you, please let us know if they will be joining us for meals so we can be sure to have enough food on hand.
Of course, children 16 and older are welcome to register as an adult family member if they would like to participate in the workshop.
